A man known to locals as Abang Chik was seen dumping a sack containing a cat into a river at Jalan Kota Giam, Jelutong, Penang, at approximately 8.30 am on Friday (31 May).
In a 66-second video posted on the Facebook page of the Malaysian Animal Association, several individuals are shown retrieving a sack from the river, only to find a cat carcass inside the tied sack.
This cruel act, which led to the cat’s death, marks the second time such an incident has occurred at the same location.
“The animal cruelty case has sufficient witnesses who can identify the suspect. With the available evidence and testimonies, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is being called upon to rigorously enforce the Animal Welfare Act 2015 to prevent further such crimes,” Malaysia Animal Association said in a statement.
Police are currently looking for the man responsible for this inhumane act.
Police investigating
According to Harian Metro, Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid stated they received a report from a 31-year-old woman just before noon yesterday regarding the incident.
“According to the woman, who delivers food, about 8.30 am yesterday, she saw a man from Kota Giam here throwing a sack into a drain. She found movements inside the sack and took it to check,” said Assistant Commissioner Razlam.
Witnesses, who had been trying to identify the person responsible for these heinous acts, managed to observe the incident this time.

A police report was subsequently filed at the Jelutong Police Station at 11.58 am, urging authorities to bring the perpetrator to justice.
The residents of Penang are looking forward to the efficiency and competence of the PDRM investigators in handling this case and await the prosecution of the suspect, who is believed to have committed several inhumane and cruel acts.
