“You shouldn’t let her dye this kind of color”

On the day of the CNY reunion, her aunt visited her house and asked about why she had dyed her hair that color. She casually responded that she simply liked it, so she went ahead with it.

Her aunt, disapproving of her new hair color, promptly turned to her mother, advising her that she shouldn’t have allowed the dyeing process. She argued that dyeing hair can damage the scalp, and this particular color involves strong chemicals.

The aunt also said that this color didn’t suit a decent girl, and only Lala mui would choose it.

Lala mui is used to describe young women who are considered lacking in sophistication. It’s often used in a negative way to criticize someone’s behavior or appearance.

“Going out like this will definitely make her easily harassed, I’m telling you!” her aunt added the heat even more.

The mother changed her mind

Her aunt’s words hurt, but what stung more was her mother’s sudden change of heart. After hearing all those words from the aunt, her mother insisted her to change her hair color.

The woman was taken aback by her mother’s change in attitude, especially after receiving her initial approval.

“Didn’t you hear what your aunt said just now? This kind of color is what ‘lala mui’ would dye!” the mother told her.

The woman decided to stay silent instead of escalating the argument with her mother.

However, she wasn’t keen on the idea of reverting her hair color, especially after investing RM500 in a look she was satisfied with.

She has also urged all aunties to avoid making comments that could lead to arguments.

“And those gossiping relatives really have had enough, can’t they control their ignorance a little? Just a few words have destroyed someone else’s mother-daughter relationship!” she said.
