‘Why Durian?’ — M’sians Outraged To See Favourite Fruit On Display At Disgusting Food Museum

Blasphemy!
For most Malaysians, durian is probably one of the best fruits ever known to mankind despite its thorny appearance and pungent smell. Though some might disagree…

But whether or not one finds it pleasant or not, all Malaysians will not tolerate any slander about the King of Fruits and that’s what they did following a viral Instagram video regarding durian being shown at the Disgusting Food Museum in Malmö, Sweden.

Durian gets featured at Sweden’s Disgusting Food Museum

In the one-minute long clip shared by content creator Karim Bukhadurov on Apr 12, it showed him visiting the Disgusting Food Museum, a place where visitors can look and taste foods that are considered repulsive in certain parts of the world for themselves.

Before visitors can enter the premise, they must have their tickets with them, which actually also acts as a sickbag if they feel the need to puke during their visit.

They are also given a bingo card which they can cross off after trying the ‘disgusting’ foods being featured at the museum.

Among some of the foods that were shown on display include China’s bull penis, Guam’s fruit bat soup, Peru’s guinea pigs, and Italy’s casu martzu.

After seeing all of the ‘disgusting’ foods, visitors can head over to a counter where they’ll have the chance to try out some of the foods firsthand.

One of the foods being given out to visitors was the durian, where Bukhadurov described the fruit as having the smell of an onion but tasting like mango.

He also tried stinky bugs but said he was left “deeply disappointed” by its taste.

‘Durian’s not disgusting!’

Needless to say, Malaysians weren’t exactly happy to see durian being labelled as a ‘disgusting’ food and made their thoughts known in the comment section.

Meanwhile, netizens from other countries also questioned the video for featuring local favorities such as spam and Korean Milkis. Some even accused the museum of encouraging xenophobia with its setting.
