The Local Government Development Ministry has launched a detailed investigation into the actions of Rantau Panjang MP Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff, who reportedly used water from a fire hydrant to provide an alternative water source for her constituents during a recent dry spell.
Rantau Panjang MP misuses fire hydrant to provide water for residents
The investigation follows several Facebook posts last month in which Zailah documented the process of channeling water from a fire hydrant into a tanker for free distribution.
In the captions accompanying the photographs, Zailah wrote,
“Ya Allah, ease all our affairs. We faced floods in the rainy season, and now we face drought.”

In an interview with Astro Awani, Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming also confirmed the probe against Zailah.

He also issued a general reminder to elected representatives, urging them to set a good example and not misuse fire hydrant water, which is intended solely for extinguishing fires.
“Water from the fire hydrant is not intended for normal daily use. If everyone used water from the hydrant, what happened in the event of a fire? This incident should not have happened,” Minister Nga Kor Ming stated.
He also urged citizens to respect and abide by the rules and regulations governing the use of fire hydrants to ensure their proper functioning in case of emergencies.
