There is something special about finally getting your salary and being able to spend a little of it on the people you love.
A Malaysian woman recently went viral after sharing how she travelled from Gelang Patah to Pontian late at night just to fulfil her mother’s craving for KFC.
The video, uploaded on TikTok by @.shhda._, showed her arriving home carrying several bags of food before revealing the excited reactions from her family.
“Anything for mum, kakak is willing to do it. She really wanted to eat KFC,” she wrote in the caption.
Mum suddenly craved KFC around midnight
Responding to comments under the video, the woman explained that she had just returned from work when her mother messaged her saying she wanted to eat KFC.
The problem was that it was already around midnight.
She was also in Gelang Patah at the time while her mother was in Pontian.
Still, she decided to make the journey home that very night.
“I had just finished work. My mum messaged me while I was on my motorcycle and said she wanted KFC.
“It was already around 12am, so I was thinking where I could even get KFC. I was in Gelang Patah and my mum was in Pontian. But that night, I still went back and looked for it. Thankfully, I managed to get some,” she explained.
In another comment, she revealed that she usually finishes work at around 8pm and works far away from her mother.
Because of the distance, she only gets to return home about once a week.
“So when she said she wanted KFC, even though it was already midnight, I still went. Anything for my mum,” she said.
Family’s excited reaction melts hearts
Her effort appeared to be worth it the moment she reached home.
In the video, members of her family could be seen smiling and reacting excitedly as she walked in carrying the food.
Her mother also appeared delighted by the late night treat.
The simple gesture quickly touched viewers, with many saying it reminded them of the happiness that comes with finally being able to treat their parents after receiving their salary.
One commenter pointed out that KFC holds plenty of memories for some Malaysian families, such as parents bringing their children there after receiving a work bonus or celebrating good examination results.
‘My mum is still number one’
The video also attracted several comments questioning her decision to purchase KFC amid discussions surrounding boycotts.
The woman responded that her priority at that moment was simply fulfilling her mother’s wish.
“This is my mum. Boycott or whatever, I will still buy it for my mum. Let people say whatever they want. My mum is still number one,” she replied.
For context, BDS Malaysia previously clarified in a statement on May 26, 2024 that KFC had never been included in its boycott list and that the organisation had never called on Malaysians to boycott the fast food chain.
BDS Malaysia chairman Prof Nazari Ismail said at the time that McDonald’s had initially not been included on its list either, but was later added following actions involving its branches in Israel.
He said KFC had not carried out a similar action and therefore did not need to be included in BDS Malaysia’s boycott list at the time.
Video goes viral again on Threads
The wholesome clip later resurfaced on Threads, where it gained attention once again.
One Threads user said not to mistreat people at work because some employees were simply trying to earn enough to provide for their families.
For the woman, what looked like a simple bag of fried chicken became a small way of showing appreciation to her mother.
And judging by her family’s reaction, that midnight journey home meant much more than just supper.
