For many Malaysians, some of the simplest memories hit the hardest.
It’s not big celebrations or expensive gifts, but the small, everyday moments with our grandparents that stay with us the longest.
The way they pamper us when we’re young, the stories they tell, and even something as simple as sharing a meal together.
A recent TikTok video by a woman named Safiah struck a chord online for exactly that reason.
A simple meal that meant everything
In the video, Safiah paid a quick visit to her grandfather, bringing along takeaway from KFC to share with him.

According to her, the meal wasn’t just random. It was a small way to reward her grandfather for staying at home and taking care of himself.
She even bought two meal sets so he wouldn’t have to worry about cooking dinner later.
“Bought Atok two sets, so senang, no need to cook for dinner,” she shared.
“Atok, you choose first”

What made the video especially touching was a small moment many didn’t expect.
Safiah asked her grandfather to pick which meal he wanted first. He looked back and forth between the two sets, clearly a little undecided, before finally choosing the rice.
It was such a simple interaction, but one that felt incredibly real.
After that, her grandfather opened the meal, said a short prayer, and began eating quietly while sitting beside his granddaughter.
Triggering memories Malaysians didn’t expect
The clip quickly resonated with viewers, many of whom said it reminded them of their own grandparents.
In the comments, people began sharing how their atok or nenek also loved KFC, with some even pointing out their favourite parts of the meal; from chicken thighs to mashed potatoes.
Others shared memories of different foods their grandparents enjoyed, showing how something as simple as eating together can carry so much emotional weight.
It’s never really about the food
At its core, the video wasn’t about fried chicken. It was about time.
About making the effort to go home, sit down, and be present even if it’s just for a quick meal.
Because as many quietly realised while watching the clip, those moments don’t last forever.
