M’sian Shuttler Ong Yew Sin & Wife Aya Ohori Announce They Are Expecting Their First Child

“Can’t wait to see you soon,” Ohori wrote.
Malaysian badminton player Ong Yew Sin and former Japanese shuttler Aya Ohori are preparing to begin a new chapter together as parents.

The cross-border badminton couple recently announced on social media that they are expecting their first child.

“Can’t wait to see you soon”

Ohori shared the happy news on Instagram with a heartwarming photo showing the couple forming a heart shape with their hands over her baby bump.

Can’t wait to see you soon,” she wrote.

The announcement was quickly met with congratulatory messages from badminton players, friends and fans around the world.

From badminton players to husband and wife

Ong and Ohori first met through badminton, and their relationship has attracted considerable attention from fans in Malaysia and Japan.

In March 2025, Ong announced that Ohori had accepted his marriage proposal.

The couple officially registered their marriage in June before holding their wedding ceremony in Melaka on Nov. 29, 2025.

Less than a year after their wedding, the pair are now preparing to welcome a new member into their family.

A new chapter beyond the badminton court

Ohori was previously one of Japan’s leading women’s singles players and competed regularly on the international badminton circuit.

She retired from professional badminton at the end of 2024.

Ong, meanwhile, continues to compete internationally as an independent player. He is best known for his long-running men’s doubles partnership with Teo Ee Yi, with the pair achieving several notable results throughout their careers.

From meeting as athletes to becoming life partners and soon-to-be parents, Ong and Ohori’s relationship has become one of badminton’s most closely followed cross-border love stories.
