Anwar: National Debt Has Exceeded RM1,000,000,000,000 (1 Trillion)

So many zeroes.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has revealed that the national debt has now exceeded RM1,000,000,000,000 (RM1 Trillion).

He emphasized that what he said was not defamatory, but a conclusion drawn from reviewing the government files.

According to FMT, Anwar shared that he would reviewed all approved projects to ensure there are no leakage as the national debts has exceeded RM1 trillion.

“I am examining the files, that’s why there are some projects we are asking to be postponed, re-examined or cancelled,” he reportedly said at a gathering with Muslim preachers at his official residence today.

He further shared that the government has to check and review for all the government projects hence some projects got delayed, postponed or cancelled.

Research on flood mitigation project

He also mentioned about the flood protection project as it has caused hardship to the people and the majority of the poor are Malays.

“So, if we are going to spend on that, we need to do research.”

“When I saw the sudden approval of the flood mitigation project, the companies involved were being questioned, and several questions left unanswered, I asked for an extension and a reassessment of the project.”

PM also added that he will be going to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to study about the matter.
