GOMBAK – A 29-year-old snatch thief’s attempt to flee the scene after snatching a woman’s handbag was foiled after onlookers apprehended him on Thursday (Sept 30).
The incident happened in front of the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) stall at Jalan SG 3/11, Taman Sri Gombak.
Gombak District police chief, Assistant Commissioner Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said they received a report at 8.10 am.
“The 33-year-old victim was in front of the stall before the suspect snatched her bag while on his Yamaha LC motorcycle.
“However, he crashed into another vehicle while trying to escape.
“He was then nabbed by the public before being handed to the police,” he said in a statement today.

Zainal Mohamed added that preliminary investigations found the suspect to have 20 criminal records, including three drug-related charges.
“The motorcycle used in the theft was also reported stolen in Kajang.
“We are also very grateful to the public’s swift action and we urge those with further information to contact Inspector Atikah Adnan at 03-61262222 or 018-3648044,” he said.
The case will be investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 14 years, a fine, and whipping.
