Gombak District Police Chief ACP Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said the incident occurred at 9 am yesterday (June 26) when the 16-year-old and her mother went to buy breakfast from a stall located in front of a bank nearby Bandar Country Homes.

“However, the 54-year-old mother did not realise that her daughter had wandered off and only found out when she was told by a vendor that she had followed a man driving a grey Perodua Viva,” he said.

Frantic and desperate to find her daughter, the mother requested an acquaintance of hers to upload a video of the incident to several WhatsApp groups to track down the car, where it was later found at Saujana Rawang at around 12.30 pm.

Needless to say, the enraged mother confronted the driver and began beating and kicking him while shouting at him as curious passers-by looked on.

Zainal added that investigations revealed the 80-year-old driver had stopped his vehicle and told the teenager to climb on board as he thought she needed help.

“Unfortunately, he never had the chance to offer assistance to her as she remained silent throughout and was stopped by a group of motorists who accused him of kidnapping her.

“But we can confirm that there was no criminal element involved and the mother has withdrawn her police report,” he said.
