In response to the incident, the Gombak district police headquarter issued a statement and gave a detailed explanation of the entire kerfuffle yesterday (April 3).

According to Gombak deputy district police chief Zainal Mohamed bin Mohamed, it all began with the student claiming he was invited to meet with a rector but was stopped at the university entrance. When he insisted on entering, the policewoman contacted the student president to confirm the invitation and was told that there was no such thing.

Not satisfied with the answer, the policewoman handed her handphone over to the student to hear it for himself. However, he proceeds to record the policewoman while screaming that he was assaulted. He also refused to return the phone but the policewoman managed to snatch it back after some haggling.

Zainal also explained that the auxiliary police did not take any action against the student because they were instructed by the university to not lay a finger on students.

“Upon arresting the 22-year-old student, who is an Indian national, we later discovered that he had recorded the entire incident as he was worried no one would believe his charges of assault,” he said.

This case is currently being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code(Kanun Keseksaan) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.
