KULIM – A nurse at the Kulim Hospital was alerted to the existence of a spy camera inside a ward’s bathroom after hearing the sound of a falling object on Thursday (Sept 16).
The 30-year-old nurse later found the camera hidden inside a tissue box that was mounted on the wall and immediately contacted the police.
Kulim district police chief Supt Sazalee Adam said that the incident had occurred at 6.20 pm.
The police arrested a 35-year-old suspect, who works as an assistant, an hour later.
“The nurse then contacted and handed over all the items to the police. As a result of further investigation, we arrested a man who is also hospital staff.”
“The suspect admitted that he had bought the mini camera at an online e-commerce platform a month ago.
“We also confiscated a mobile charger, a mobile phone, two SIM cards, a memory card and cable,” he said when contacted by Harian Metro.
Sazlee added that police are also looking into the suspect’s claim of installing the camera at 5 pm on the same day.
The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for outraging one’s modesty and Section 14 of the Minor Offenses Act 1955 for insulting behaviour.
