We often hold those whose job is to save lives in high regard as it requires courage and selflessness. It is also a job that not many may be keen to take up due to the high risk of injury and even death.

Normaisarah Ibrahim, 31, did not only have one such career but TWO as she decided to become a firefighter after seven years of being a nurse.

She was later assigned to the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) special medical unit, where she has served for the past three years. This was thanks to her prior experience as a nurse, where she was thoroughly trained in attending to victims.

When asked why she chose to be a firefighter, Normaisarah said she loved interacting with the public and serving the community.

“I have always loved challenges and jobs that require us to be physically active, which is why I switched to this profession.”

She said that although it is a male-dominated profession, she wants to prove to herself that she is equally capable as her male colleagues too.
