Najib’s Prison Sentence Reduced From 12 To 6 Years, Says CNA

If true, he will be released in Aug 2028.
In yet another major development in Najib’s current incarceration and possible pardon, it was been reported that his 12-year prison sentence has been reduced by half.

According to CNA, this information was given to them by several sources, including senior government officials.

CNA also reported that aside from the reduced prison sentence, Najib’s RM210 million fine was also reduced to an unspecified amount, which was disclosed to them by three separate sources who spoke on the condition of confidentiality.

If this reduction is proven to be legit, this means that the former prime minister will walk out from prison as a free man in August 2028. Coupled with parole for good behavior, he may be released in August 2026 after serving two-thirds of his sentence.

Yesterday, all eyes were on the former prime minister, who reportedly received a royal pardon according to a report by Utusan.

However, the article was rescinded and Utusan apologised for publishing “unverified information”.

Najib is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence and was fined RM210 million for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd after he was sentenced in August 2022.

He is also facing multiple charges for his involvement in the highly-publicised 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.
