Starting a new job is already stressful enough, but imagine being told that your salary has suddenly changed after you have submitted your resignation letter.
A woman recently shared how she nearly left her current workplace after accepting a RM2,000 job offer, only for the new company to change its terms at the last minute.
Salary suddenly dropped to RM1,800
Sharing her experience on Threads, the woman said she was offered a starting salary of RM2,000 during the interview.
She was also told that her salary would be reviewed after three months, with the possibility of an increase.
Believing everything had been settled, she agreed to the offer and submitted her resignation letter to the Human Resources department at her current workplace.
However, the new company later contacted her on WhatsApp and said her starting salary would be RM1,800 instead.
RM2,000 came with a new condition
The woman immediately informed the company that she had already submitted her resignation letter based on the salary discussed during the interview.
After speaking with management, the company returned with another proposal.
It agreed to offer her RM2,000, but said any future salary increase would depend on sales performance.
This raised even more concerns as the woman claimed the job scope discussed during the interview did not clearly involve sales.
She later learnt that she might be expected to look for customers and help the company achieve its sales targets.
Feeling uncertain about the changing terms and unclear responsibilities, she decided to reject the offer.
Managed to withdraw her resignation
Fortunately, the woman contacted her head of department and HR department immediately to ask them to put her resignation on hold.
Her current company eventually allowed her to withdraw the letter, and she decided to remain at her existing workplace.
She added that she had previously requested an offer letter from the new company, but was told that it would only be given to her when she reported for work.
Netizens said her experience was an important reminder to receive, read and sign a written offer letter before resigning from an existing job.
