Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia (PSM) has publicly apologized for the subpar condition of the Bukit Jalil National Stadium (SNBJ), ahead of the highly anticipated Malaysia Cup Final scheduled for December 8, 2023.
This apology comes in the wake of concerns raised by the Malaysian Football League (MFL), the event’s organizers, and the passionate football fans of teams like Johor Darul Ta’zim F.C and Terengganu FC.
The cause of the stadium’s deteriorated condition has been attributed to the aftermath of a major concert by the renowned international band Coldplay, which took place on 22 November.
The event, which drew massive crowds, left the stadium’s field in a less-than-ideal state for a football match of this caliber.
PSM apologizes over poor condition at Stadium Bukit Jalil
In their statement, PSM expressed regret for not having sufficient time to repair and return the field to its optimum condition following the concert.
This has raised concerns among the fans and teams about the quality of play that can be expected on the big day.
To revise SOP
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, PSM has assured that they are taking significant steps to prevent such occurrences in the future.
“A key focus will be on revising and strengthening their Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the management of events at SNBJ,” it wrote.
This move is seen as a commitment to ensuring that the stadium remains a top venue for both sports and entertainment events, without one affecting the quality of the other.
The Malaysia Cup, a pinnacle of Malaysian football, is expected to draw large crowds, mirroring the enthusiasm seen during the Coldplay concert.
However, with the current state of the field, there are valid concerns about how this might affect the players’ performance and the overall quality of the game.
