SERDANG – As the saying goes, love can make you do crazy things. A man enraged by the rejection of love set a woman’s car on fire at Taman Bukit Serdang earlier this Sunday (5 Dec).
According to Serdang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner AA Anbalagan, the incident occurred about 5.20 am when a neighbour saw the fire.
The neighbour quickly informed the owner that her car was on fire.
Rushing down the stairs, the owner found firefighters trying to put out the fire.
The fire was quick to spread as vehicles in the vicinity of the victim’s car were destroyed too.
“According to the CCTV footage, police have detained a 29-year-old man in the neighbourhood of Bandar Kinrara, Puchong on the suspicion of being involved in the event,” said AA Anbalagan.
Anbalagan further said that the police seized a motorcycle, a pair of shoes and clothes as well as a lighter used during the incident.
Initial investigation revealed that the motive behind the suspect’s act of arson was due to his dissatisfaction of having his love rejected a year ago.
Background check disclosed that the suspect had no prior criminal records. Additionally, his drug screening tests came back negative.
“Investigation documents are being finalised and will be sent to the deputy public prosecutor soon.”
“The matter is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code,” he stated.
