LRT Commuters From Ampang & Putra Heights Can Now Travel To Masjid Jamek Station Without Interchanging

Finally!

Effective February 1, 2024, LRT commuters from the Ampang and Putra Heights lines no longer need to interchange at Hang Tuah station before travelling to Masjid Jamek Station.

In a statement, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd said it has initiated a trial operation for the direct LRT service between Masjid Jamek and Bandaraya stations, in preparation for the full-fledged operation of this route.

Interchange at Hang Tuah station no longer needed

With this new arrangement, commuters no longer need to disembark at Hang Tuah Station for an intermediate train to reach Masjid Jamek.

“However, a free shuttle bus service will still be required for travel between Masjid Jamek and Bandaraya stations,” it wrote.

The trial operation by Rapid Rail marks the final phase before the reopening of this route. This comes after the completion of repair work on the bridge structure and tracks near Bandaraya Station.

These repairs included replacing several track components in the affected area, ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers.

Frequency of trains to be increased too

Rapid KL also shared that the frequency of trains will be increased, particularly during peak hours, with an average waiting time of 3.5 minutes in the Central Business District and 7 minutes outside it.

Subject to assessment and approval by authorities, the full reopening of the route is expected by the end of February 2024.

This route between Masjid Jamek and Bandaraya stations was closed since January 27, 2023, following structural damage to the tracks near Bandaraya LRT Station, which had prevented trains from passing through the area.
