Hong Kee Claypot Chicken Rice and Portuguese Grilled Fish At Petaling Street

Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were greeted by a friendly staff member who showed us to our table. The atmosphere of the restaurant was bustling, with the sounds of chatter and the sizzling of food filling the air.

We were given menus that were both in English and Mandarin, which made it easy for us to choose our dishes.

After much consideration, we decided to order the signature claypot chicken rice and the Portuguese grilled fish, as we had heard many good things about these two dishes.

The restaurant had an ‘open’ kitchen, and we could see the chefs cooking our food on a large charcoal grill by the roadside.

When our food finally arrived, we were impressed with the presentation. The claypot chicken rice came in a sizzling hot clay pot, and the Portuguese grilled fish was plated beautifully.

We could see the freshness of the ingredients, and the flavors of the food did not disappoint. The chicken in the claypot rice was tender and juicy, with the sauce perfectly complementing the rice.

As we dug into the rice, we were delighted with the flavors that came together in every bite. The rice had a slightly charred taste from the claypot, which gave it a unique texture and depth of flavor.

The chicken was juicy and well-marinated, and the slices of Chinese sausage added a savory and smoky taste to the dish. The sauce that coated the rice was the perfect balance of salty and sweet, and complemented the other flavors perfectly.

The Portuguese grilled fish was also well-cooked and seasoned, with a unique blend of spices and herbs.

As we tasted the dish, we were impressed by the unique flavors that came through with every bite. The fish was tender and moist, with a smoky flavor from the grill. The marinade had a distinct blend of spices that added a subtle heat and depth of flavor to the dish.

Grilled over charcoal, the fish had a slightly crispy exterior that contrasted with its soft, flaky interior. The skin of the fish was charred to perfection, which added a smoky flavor to the dish.

However, one aspect of our dining experience that was a bit disappointing was the saltiness of the Portuguese grilled fish. While the flavors were rich and well-balanced, the dish was noticeably salty, and we felt like it could have been seasoned more lightly.

Charged RM2 per item during CNY

Another disappointing aspect of our dining experience at Hong Kee Claypot Chicken Rice and Portuguese Grilled Fish was the additional charges we incurred for every dish. As we visited the restaurant during the second week of the Chinese New Year period, we were charged an additional RM2 for every item we ordered.

While we understood that it was a peak period and restaurants may have additional charges, we felt that this practice was not necessary.

Overall, Hong Kee Claypot Chicken Rice and Portuguese Grilled Fish is worth a visit for its tasty food and unique culinary experience. If you’re looking for a quick and satisfying meal in Petaling Street, Hong Kee Claypot Chicken Rice and Portuguese Grilled Fish is definitely worth a try.
