A domestic dispute turned violent last night(4 Oct) when a 33-year-old unemployed man allegedly strangled his wife with a rope after she gave him only RM100.
The incident occurred at their residence on Jalan Kim Kee.
According to Berita Harian, the suspect, who is believed to be in the process of divorcing his 29-year-old wife, became enraged when she denied his request at around 12:30 a.m.
Muar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz, reported that the suspect, in his unexpected rage, took a rope and strangled his wife.
Simultaneously, he covered her mouth, causing her to lose consciousness.
Arrested on the same day
After realizing what he had done and as his wife regained consciousness, he panicked and fled the scene.
“The victim managed to escape and proceeded to the Muar District Police Headquarters to report the crime,” Raiz Mukhliz told the Malay daily.
Following the report made by the victim, a police team from the Crime Investigation Division successfully arrested the suspect on the day of the incident itself.
“The suspect was then brought to the Muar IPD for further investigation before being presented in the Magistrate’s Court for a remand order,” added Raiz Mukhliz.
The investigation is still ongoing under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
Meanwhile, the suspect, wearing an orange detainee shirt, was brought to the Magistrate’s Court around 8 a.m. to obtain the remand order.
Magistrate Fatin Dalilah Khalid issued a five-day remand order to assist with the investigations related to the case.
