It’s no secret that some Malaysians are struggling to make ends meet, particularly with the current high inflation rate. The cost of living has skyrocketed in recent years, leaving many families struggling to put food on the table and pay for basic necessities such as rent, utilities, and healthcare.

29-year-old Malaysian feels like he’s B40
Interestingly, some individuals who are expected to be financially secure still subject themselves to imaginary struggles, as evidenced by an anonymous confession posted on Twitter.
According to a post by Twitter user Nasriqul Afiq, he shared a screenshot of an Instagram Q&A where a confessor shared his struggle.
“I’m 29 and I have RM300,000 in ASB, RM50,000 in EPF, and my own savings for other expenses. I also own a house. It’s not that I’m not grateful, but I still feel like I’m in the B40 group.”

‘It’s a humble brag’
The confession, which has garnered attention from netizens, sparked a debate on Twitter. Many users found it absurd that the confessor was complaining about feeling B40 despite being free from financial constraints.
“Is this… humble bragging? Feeling like B40? How about just spend the RM300k and 50k?“

“It’s not wrong to feel like you’re part of the B40 group. My older sister is like this, she has a lot of savings that can’t be counted. But because of her frugal spending habits, she feels like she’s part of the B40 group. That’s why her savings keep increasing. Haha.”

“[…] I don’t understand the behavior of T20 people who notice that they are hurt like this B40.”

“Yes, it’s true that he feels like B40 because the cost of living is too expensive nowadays, even a hundred dollars feels like ten ringgit when you go to the hypermarket, and if your salary is below 5k a month here in KL, it’s nothing, I think you still belong to the extreme poor category.”
