A 24-year-old Malaysian woman in has recently accused her mother of constantly demanding money from her despite her meagre monthly salary of RM1500.
Mother takes half of the daughter’s salary
In a tweet by ConfessTweetMy, the woman claimed that her mother would ask for money, sometimes as much as RM800, and threatened to kick her out of the house if she didn’t comply.
The woman, who works as a cashier, said that her mother even demanded payment for petrol whenever she used her car.
She added that despite graduating from university last year, she was still earning a low salary and barely making ends meet.
“I travel to work on a motorcycle, and sometimes when I work night shifts, I use the car. But I have to pay for the petrol myself.
Every time my salary is about to come, my mother reminds me to transfer the money to her,” she wrote in the tweet.
Mother took half of her university allowances
According to the woman, when she was in university and receiving a monthly allowance of RM800, her mother would take RM500 of it and save it, fearing that her daughter would exhaust it too quickly.
The woman stated that her mother would often say that the money she took was for household expenses, petrol, and maintenance for the car. This month, her mother requested more than RM800, which surprised the woman.
Threatens to kick daughter out
When the woman confronted her mother about the constant demands for money, they had a heated argument, and her mother even threatened to kick her out of the house.
She also shared screenshots of her conversations with her mother as evidence. She said that she was not trying to bring shame to her family but had no one to talk to and needed an outlet to express her emotions.
Treats daughter like ‘cash cow’
The tweet, which was posted on Saturday (8 April) has sparked a flurry of concern and outrage among social media users.
One wrote that her mum is treating her as a ‘cash cow’.
“Is your mother a loan shark? Confessor, please be wise. You’re already 24 years old. Save your money silently, don’t tell anyone. If there is an opportunity for a job far from your family, please go for it. When you receive your salary, spend within your means and start planning your own finances. You need to have a strong heart.”
“Parenting went wrong. This is what happens when parents see their child as an investment for when they are old, not a child they need to love and protect. To a certain point, technically we all are one, but it should come naturally. this sounds very forcing.”
