‘Papa Is Innocent’ — Yana Says She’s Disappointed By Najib’s Reduced Jail Term & Fine

"Najib and his family remain steadfast and believe that he is innocent."
Just today, former Prime Minister Najib Razak had his 12-year jail sentence reduced to 6 years while his RM210 million fine was reduced to RM50 million.

The news has since triggered a wave of reaction among Malaysians, among them being Najib’s own daughter Nooryana Najib.

Yana Najib: ‘My papa is innocent’

Taking to Instagram to express her emotions following the Pardons Board’s ruling, Yana said although she was grateful for the reduced jail sentence, she was nevertheless “disappointed” by the ruling.

We feel disappointed that Najib did not receive full pardon and immediate release. Najib and his family remain steadfast in their stance and believe that he is innocent.

“Those who followed the SRC case closely will know and agree with the judgment made by the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak last year that a great injustice has been done to Najib, and the correct decision was for him to be released and acquitted,” she wrote.

Najib was sentenced to jail and fined after he was found guilty by the Federal Court of misappropriating SRC International funds.

Following the Pardons Board’s announcement, he has now received a reduced sentence, where he’s slated to be released on Aug. 23, 2028.

However, whether he’s able to be a free man earlier will depend on whether he’s able to pay the fine.
