A severe flood recently struck Johor, which led to the tragic death of four people.
23yo M’sian woman swept away by floodwater
Among the victims was a 23-year-old woman whose Perodua Myvi was washed away by the floodwaters in Mersing, and her lifeless body was discovered inside the vehicle.
The woman was believed to be on her way to Kluang when she lost control of her car on Jalan Nitar Utama.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Abdul Muiz Mukhtar, a distress call was received by the authorities about the incident at 6.49 pm, and 11 members from the Fire and Rescue Stations in Mersing and Endau were swiftly dispatched to the scene, Malay Mail reports.
Located 15 meters away
After hours of searching, the vehicle was finally located 15 meters away from where it was washed away.
Bernama also reported that rescuers had to use a “vehicle rockery system” to retrieve the car due to trees blocking their path.
At 10.19 pm, the woman’s body was discovered inside the vehicle and subsequently taken to Mersing Hospital for a post-mortem and identification by her family members.
The flood had affected 49,410 people in Johor as of 8 pm on 6 March, according to Berita Harian. The authorities continue to advise the public to take precautions and remain vigilant during the ongoing flood situation.
