On Wednesday (Apr 22), we reported of a Chongqing-KL flight which was delayed for close to two hours after a female passenger had a meltdown over the cabin crew not speaking in Mandarin to her.
It didn’t take long for the incident to capture both local and international attention, where it was reported by major news outlets and spawned a wave of memes that have since gone viral.
However, the story has also seen its fair share of twists and turns, with a major airline company being swept into the drama as well.
Claimed to be airline employee
In the viral video shared on Threads, the woman is seen venting her frustration towards a cabin crew member about how she felt disrespected by an air steward speaking in English to her.

The woman then went on to claim that she was an air stewardess at China Southern Airlines and angrily questioned whether it was proper of the air steward to speak a language she didn’t understand.
She also demanded that she be compensated, adding that everyone else on the flight will “be stuck” with her until her demand was met.

Much to everyone’s relief, the woman was eventually escorted out of the plane by several police officers.
Allegedly wrote letter
The incident took a turn when the woman reportedly penned a letter regarding her thoughts.
In the letter, she said she was trying to contact a friend who had yet to board the flight, which annoyed a passenger seated next to her as she was talking too loudly.
A verbal dispute broke out and the woman began recording it on her phone, which further exacerbated the issue and caused an air steward to step in.

Although the woman admitted she was wrong to argue with the passenger and promised to control her temper, she blamed the cabin crew for failing to handle the situation properly.
She also claimed that she was applauded not once, but twice by passengers for her actions.
‘She’s not an employee’
Not long after the incident made headlines everywhere, China Southern Airlines issued a statement denying any connections with the woman.
Sin Chew Daily reported that in the statement, the airline company reiterated that the woman was neither an employee nor had any links with it.
Negative press aside, the drama has also put a spotlight on Malaysians’ laidback demeanor, which has earned praise from foreigners:
