SG Woman Rants About Paying RM26 For Chap Fan With Petai & Minced Meat

Stall owner claims the dishes the woman chose are premium vegetables.
Went to have a regular mixed rice meal but ended up with an unexpectedly high price.

A woman was taken aback when she was charged $7.70, approximately RM26.40, for a simple chap fan (mixed rice) meal that included three vegetable dishes in Singapore.

She felt that the price was unusually high, especially since she mostly ordered vegetables.

The incident occurred last Saturday (August 31) at the food court of the Woodlands Bus Interchange in Singapore.

The 52-year-old woman ordered stir-fried mushrooms, stir-fried lotus root, and stir-fried petai with minced meat.

To her surprise, the total came to RM26.40.

“In my understanding, these three dishes would usually cost around RM13.70 to RM17.15,” she said.

The woman also noticed that another customer, who ordered diced chicken, stir-fried beef, scrambled eggs, and white rice, was charged a little over $7.

This added to her confusion about why her vegetable-based meal cost almost as much as a meat-heavy one.

Reported by Lianhe Zaobao, a Shin Min Daily News reporter visited the stall and noted that the price list on display was only for staff, not for the general public.

The stall owner explained that the dishes the woman selected were considered premium vegetables.

“The stir-fried mushrooms and lotus root each cost RM6.86, while the stir-fried petai with minced meat costs RM10.29, and the white rice is RM2.40, making the total RM26.40,” said the stall owner.

The owner further explained that most customers are regulars who are familiar with the prices.

However, due to the busy period, the staff forgot to inform this non-regular customer about the premium pricing.

The owner assured that they would improve communication in the future and consider better ways to inform customers about pricing.
