Economy rice, or popularly known as ‘chap fan’ in the local dialect, has long been seen as the meal of choice for those looking to have a hearty meal but still save on their wallet.
But unfortunately, this is no longer the case in recent years, as how this content creator found out after patronising a ‘chap fan’ stall in Cheras.
M’sian woman charged RM200 for chap fan in Cheras
In an Instagram reel shared by Marissa Wong, she shared how she was left absolutely floored by the price during her visit to a famed ‘chap fan’ stall in Cheras with her family.
After taking several dishes such as steamed egg, brinjal, fish, and chicken, the total bill for the six of them came to a whopping RM200.
In the caption, Marissa said that the meal was more expensive than dining at a restaurant and joked that it made her wonder whether the chef “graduated from Cambridge and Oxford combined”.

‘Not worth the taste or money’
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Marissa said it was her first time patronising the establishment and decided to give it a try after it was recommended to her by her aunt.
“In our minds, we were thinking: ‘Okay lah, how expensive can it be?’ But when the bill came, it was close to RM200.
“Taste wise, it wasn’t worth the amount we paid for it although it is rumoured that the owner only uses fresh and premium ingredients,” she said.
Unsurprisingly, Marissa told WeirdKaya that she has no intention of returning to the stall again and would rather spend her money elsewhere. After all, who in their right mind would?
