Many employees have likely experienced being contacted by their bosses after work hours, sometimes disrupting their rest time and personal life.
However, as conversations around work-life balance become more common, more workers are also learning the importance of setting boundaries, especially when work starts creeping into their personal time.
Boss texted her at 11pm asking for presentation slides
A woman recently shared on Threads how she taught her employer to respect her personal time, without using harsh words or sarcasm.
According to her, her boss had once sent her a message at 11pm, asking her to prepare presentation slides for an important meeting the next day.

Instead of replying, the woman decided to ignore the message and went to sleep, as she felt that her working hours had already ended.
‘I was already off after work’
The next day, shortly after arriving at the office, her boss asked her about the presentation slides.
The woman said she simply gave a short and calm reply.
Sorry boss, I was already off after work. I didn’t notice the message.”
She added that since the incident, her boss no longer sends her work-related messages after 6pm.

Setting boundaries does not mean being rude
The woman stressed that setting boundaries at work does not mean being disrespectful.
Instead, she said it is part of being professional and protecting one’s work-life balance.
Her sharing has since drawn attention from netizens, many of whom agreed that employees deserve to enjoy their rest time without being disturbed by work matters.

“My boss once scolded and got angry at me because I never wanted to answer calls or chats after 5pm. He wanted me to reply immediately. I just nodded, but I still ignored him after 5pm. Then he slowly changed his habits. No response is a response.”

“The audacity to ask ‘where are the slides?’ Do they think if we start at 11pm, we can finish by 11.30pm?”
