At a time where everyone’s tightening their wallets and belts in the face of soaring food prices, it’s extremely rare to find stalls that sell food at an affordable price.
A chicken rice stall in Cheras is making both positive and negative headlines not just for its price, but how the owner handled orders in a less hygienic manner.
Chicken rice seller criticized for not wearing gloves
In a lengthy 7-minute video posted by the Facebook page 宝爸厨房, it wrote in the caption that the stall is run by a couple who sell chicken rice for just RM3.80 a packet for the past 34 years.
It also wrote that when the business first started, each packet was sold at RM0.50 each but eventually increased to RM3.80 due to inflation.
The video also showed how each order is prepared, where the husband prepares the food and wraps it with newspaper while his wife is responsible for the condiments.
‘Please wear gloves!’
Despite the generous portions and cheap price, netizens were put off by the stall owner not wearing gloves while handling the orders and called him out for it.
“Not hygienic. No gloves! No one will want to eat it even though it’s delicious.”
“According to the Health Ministry, vendors are not allowed to use wooden boards and newspaper to prepare food.”
