In recent times, it’s getting harder and harder to have an affordable meal as inflation is causing food prices to soar and restauranteurs cutting down on portion.
A netizen recently took to social media to complain about how meagre the ingredients were inside a bowl of seafood soup he had ordered at a jaw-dropping price of RM27.
M’sian shocked by lack of ingredients in RM27 seafood soup
In a series of videos posted to the Facebook group 吃的平台 last Saturday (Jan 20), the OP showed how little ingredients the seafood soup had after he placed the order at a stall located in Taman Pelangi, Johor.
In one of the videos, he could be seen stirring the soup continuously with a ladle to prove how ‘stingy’ the hawker was in the amount of ingredients given.
To give viewers a clearer perspective, he picked out the ingredients from the soup and placed them into a bowl. From there, one can see that the soup only had one prawn, a few stalks of lettuce, one tiny slice of fish, and a few pieces of sad-looking squid.
According to the OP in the comment section, he had ordered a medium-sized portion of seafood soup and was shocked to see the paltry ingredients.
I was in disbelief and asked a staff whether this was for real. And he confirmed to me that the seafood soup was indeed RM27.
“This was supposed to be a medium-sized soup…the problem is, how do you share one prawn between two people?” he asked rhetorically.
‘Looks like someone’s leftovers’
In the comment section, netizens could hardly believe the RM27 price tag for the miserable amount of ingredients and expressed their shock.
‘Nowadays it seems running a food business is more profitable than robbing.’
‘Is this someone’s leftovers?’
Another joked: ‘It’s not even S$9 (approx. RM31). Cheap.’
