Sekolah Kebangsaan Kg Seri Rahmat in Batu Gajah, Perak, witnessed a heartwarming farewell for an extraordinary member of their staff, Hamidah Aziz, 59, who had served as a cleaner for 14 years.
Accorded with grand send-off
In a TikTok video, Hamidah, affectionately known as Makcik Midah, was accorded a grand send-off, highlighting the deep respect and affection she garnered within the school community.
According to mStar, the day was marked by a departure that stood in stark contrast to Hamidah’s usual routine.
Forgoing her regular motorbike commute, she was chauffeured home in a car, driven by a senior teacher, akin to a ‘boss’.
This rare honor, typically bestowed upon high-ranking officials, symbolized the esteem she held among her colleagues and students.
As she journeyed through the school for the last time, staff and students lined up, waving and smiling.
‘Students are like my grandchildren’
“I don’t expect anything. This little child couldn’t afford a gift, but there was a RM2 banknote tucked inside the greeting card. The gift is priceless because of its sincerity.
“My students are like my own grandchildren. Sometimes, when we chat, I share bread and pastries, and they give me chocolate,” Makcik Midah told the Malay daily.
Hasyima Rozani, a 25-year-old teacher and Makcik Midah’s daughter-in-law also told the Malay daily that Hamidah was showered with gifts, cards, and letters, a reflection of the love and respect she earned over her years of service.

It is also understood that whether it was a feast or a school outing, Makcik Midah was always invited.
This extraordinary retirement celebration, typically reserved for principals or head teachers, underscores the inclusive and appreciative culture of the school, leaving Hamidah and her family deeply moved by the gesture.
As Hamidah bids farewell to her years at the school, her legacy of warmth and dedication remains a heartwarming testament to the impact one can have, regardless of their role.
