An ex-mechanic was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend four years ago at the Klang High court yesterday (June 30).
This comes after the court ruled that the prosecution had successfully proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt against Amirul Amin Amirruddin at the end of the defence case.
No-breakup agreement
Berita Harian reported that Amirul was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murdering Nurul Shahira Abdullah at a house in Lorong Haji Mahat, Kampung Sri Pandan, Klang, at 7.18pm in Aug 2022.
A post-mortem report, which was confirmed by the prosecution’s forensic pathologist, found that Nurul Shahira died due to asphyxiation after being smothered with a pillow.

Amirul was accused of carrying out the act after he refused to sign an agreement stating that he wouldn’t leave Nurul Shahira.
Judge: ‘Other measures could’ve been used’
In delivering her judgement, Judge Norliza Othman said during cross-examination, Amirul confessed to pressing the pillow over his girlfriend’s face as a way to stop her aggressive behaviour.
She added Amirul was aware that this would obstruct Nurul Shahira’s breathing as her entire face was was covered by the pillow and only stopped when he saw she had become completely still.
The accused also agreed with the prosecution that there were other ways to calm the deceased besides smothering her with a pillow.

“The court found there was no grave provocation that justified the accused’s actions as he had plenty of time to consider a more rational course of action and calm the deceased after refusing to sign the agreement.”
Jail time
Amirul was previously sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment under Section 304(b) of the Penal Code on Oct 17, 2025.
However, he was ordered to stand trial for murder after the prosecution successfully appealed against the decision.

Following the conviction, Amirul was sentenced to 32 years in prison and 12 cane strokes, where his jail term will begin dating back to the date of his arrest on Aug 24, 2022.
