Renting out your home or room to a total stranger comes with a huge risk of it being damaged or turned upside down if the tenant is one who doesn’t bother to keep the place intact.
Unfortunately for a Malaysian man, he was faced with the mammoth task of cleaning and fixing his parents’ once pristine home after the tenant absolutely wrecked it beyond recognition.

Taking to Facebook to recount the devastating incident, the man named Abdul Latif Ab Razak wrote that the house, which was located in Taman Cempaka, Ipoh, was rented out by his parents to a tenant, whom he described as “mental”.
And based on the photos, it’s not hard to see why.
In the kitchen, the floor had a grimy appearance while the sink and counter were full of rubbish bursting out of the black plastic bags. According to the caption, rat carcasses were also left behind. Eww!
Moving to the bedroom, empty plastic bottles, bags, and even a bicycle wheel were found thrown underneath the bed.
As for the back kitchen area, it wasn’t any better as the tenant had made a total mess out of it by leaving stones and charcoal pieces meant for barbeques all over the place.
Regrets not being firmer with tenant
According to Abdul, the massive damage inflicted on the house has not only been an eyesore but also a huge financial burden.
We were supposed to earn passive income, but we are now left with financial losses of up to RM6,000 due to cleaning, rent arrears, electricity and water bills – an amount equal to a year’s worth of rent!
To make matters worst, it seems that Abdul’s parents will have to absorb all of the costs as they didn’t ask for a deposit from the tenant.
“Having learnt a lesson from this incident, I have to put aside my sympathy for others and be firmer and not be too naive. If you want to rent a house, you have to follow the law.
“To avoid such incidents from happening, I suggest that all landlords should consider hiring a Real Estate Negotiator for their properties. Make sure the deposits, agreements, and tenant details are all complete,” he advised.

The post has since garnered more than 1,000 reactions and shares at the time of writing, where netizens were horrified by the state of the house.

Another netizen urged Abdul to name and shame the tenant who destroyed his parents’ home so that other landlords will be alerted and not rent out their homes to the person.
