A dedicated Malaysian government nurse working at a government hospital in KL has warmed the cockles of the netizens’ heart after a photo of her receiving an intravenous (IV) drip while on duty was shared online.
Hardworking nurse spotting having IV drip
The hardworking nurse, originally from Terengganu, showed her unwavering commitment to her patients despite feeling unwell.
A netizen captured the touching moment and shared it on social media after obtaining the nurse’s permission.
The conversation that unfolded revealed the reason behind the nurse’s decision to continue working while receiving treatment.
Upon being asked why she was receiving the drip, the nurse responded with a shy smile, saying, “Oh, I am a little unwell”.
When asked if she had considered taking a leave of absence, she quipped: “there aren’t enough manpower”
The photo and the conversation quickly gained traction online, prompting an outpouring of sympathy and admiration from netizens.
Many expressed their gratitude for the nurse’s dedication, and some called for better working conditions and support for healthcare workers.
“Like every festive season, during Chinese New Year, a Chinese doctor had to work overtime because she mentioned that there were more accident patients during these celebrations. There was no choice.”
“Malaysia has a high number of hospitals, but the root cause lies in our lack of self-discipline. A balanced diet, exercise, and avoiding tobacco and alcohol are the real solutions. Let’s not burden our healthcare system with our own problems.”
One sarcastically wrote: “Is it because of understaffing? Then why didn’t the government renew the contracts of its staff?”
Another netizen also shared the experience her sister was facing while working at a hospital.
The nurse mentioned that she would only be able to return to her hometown for Raya next year, highlighting the sacrifices that healthcare professionals often make, particularly during these challenging times.
