Many employees see one-on-one sessions with their bosses as a chance to openly share feedback, concerns, or workplace frustrations.
However, one Malaysian man recently claimed that being too honest during such a meeting ended up backfiring on him instead.
‘Pointed out everything I was unhappy with’
In a Threads post that has since gone viral, the man shared that he used his one-on-one session with his boss to openly voice out the things he was unhappy about at work.
According to him, he ended up “highlighting everything” that had been bothering him during the discussion, thinking it was a chance to have an honest discussion for the company to improve.

However, he claimed the situation later took an unexpected turn.
Received a warning letter & was placed under PIP
The man claimed that after speaking up during the session, his boss told him: “I promise to you will get back to you on May.”
But when May arrived, he alleged that instead of receiving improvements or updates, he was handed a warning letter and placed under a three-month Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).

He ended the post with a yawning emoji, seemingly expressing frustration and disappointment over the situation.
Unsatisfied with receiving 75% bonus
When contacted by WeirdKaya, the man shared that he is currently working for a Singaporean company.
Elaborating further on what happened during the one-on-one session, he said one of the issues he raised to his boss was his dissatisfaction over receiving only 75% of his bonus instead of the full amount.
According to him, this frustrated him as he claimed there were no performance-related issues or work problems on his end.
He also admitted that the experience has changed the way he views workplace honesty, saying he would most likely avoid being overly honest during future one-on-one sessions with management.
Jokingly, he advised other employees to sometimes “act blur”, simply go to work and head home instead of speaking too openly about workplace frustrations.
