We’ve all been there—sitting in someone else’s car, pulling the seatbelt, only for it to lock halfway, or fumbling around like it’s your first time buckling up.
It’s one of those tasks that’s supposed to be simple… until it isn’t. Now, imagine you’re in a new country, in a stranger’s car, and that pesky seatbelt just won’t cooperate.

That’s exactly what happened in a viral TikTok video uploaded by @zhr.azli96.
A group of foreigners were riding in an e-hailing car driven by a local guy, but what started as a normal ride quickly turned into a laugh fest when one passenger’s epic battle with his seatbelt took centre stage.
As the car began moving, the dashcam picked up a familiar, friendly reminder that the front-seat passenger hadn’t buckled up.
His friends in the back did what any good buddies would: they poked fun at him and told him to just put on the seatbelt. But that’s when things went hilariously wrong.
It quickly became clear that the passenger had no idea how to wear the seatbelt.
He fumbled with it like it was an alien technology, and even with his friends offering “help”, the poor guy somehow managed to almost tie himself in knots.
The driver, amused but trying to stay professional, decided to step in. “What’s that? Come here, I’ll show you,” he said, initially keeping his cool.
But after a few more failed attempts, even he gave up with a laugh. “You know what? Never mind. No need to wear it—we’re almost there anyway.”
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Zahirazli, the driver in question, shared that the incident took place in Perak.
“I picked them up from a Mamak stall and drove them to Billion hypermarket,” he explained. “The distance wasn’t that far.”
When asked if the passenger ever managed to wear the seatbelt after all the chaos, Zahirazli chuckled and said:
“He didn’t wear it because I told him not to bother—seemed way too hard for him to figure it out.”
The lighthearted moment didn’t go unnoticed by netizens. Many flooded the comments section, expressing how entertained they were by the foreign passenger’s confusion.
One wrote: “He panicked like he was taking a driving test.”
Another added: “The backseat guy is laughing way too hard—let’s switch places and see how he does.”
And a third chimed in: “I lost it when his friend started laughing.”
