A married Singaporean actor found himself in hot water after being caught ‘khalwat’ (being caught alone in private with a member of the opposite sex who is not an immediate family member under Shariah law) with a well-known Malaysian actress in a Kuala Lumpur condominium.
According to Harian Metro, the incident, which unfolded in the early hours today (9 Mar), saw the duo at the actress’s upscale residence, igniting a flurry of controversy and speculation.
Acting on tips from the public, the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) swooped in for the arrest.
The couple, who are currently co-stars in a drama production, were together when enforcement officers arrived, raising suspicions of khalwat or close proximity among unmarried individuals.
Sources close to the situation revealed to Harian Metro that the actor had been seen visiting the actress’s home multiple times, sparking rumors.
The actor, who had previously faced challenges in his marriage including a divorce and subsequent reconciliation, has been under the spotlight for rumored infidelity.
Meanwhile, the actress, known for her familial ties to another celebrity, has had her share of romantic links in the entertainment industry.
The situation escalated when the pair refused to open their door, prompting Jawi officers to call in the Fire and Rescue Department. The standoff ended nearly three hours later, with the actor relenting only after threats of forced entry were made.
The late-night operation began around 10:30 pm, with Jawi personnel arriving in force.
After the tense standoff, the couple was escorted to the Jawi office for further investigation.
