What started out as an innocent hair dying session quickly evolved into a surprise ‘khalwat’ (close proximity) raid for a young couple in Kedah.
Following the raid, both of them were arrested and will be facing charges under the Kedah Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 2014.
Were in the same room
Kulim District Religious Enforcement (PADK) officer Anwar Sharifuddin Mat Saad told Harian Metro that an inspection was carried out in Sungai Seluang after receiving information about immoral activities.
When they knocked on the door, they were met by a woman believed to be the mother of a 17-year-old girl, who welcomed them in.

“During checks in one of the rooms, officers found a teenage girl with a 20-year-old man. Further inspection revealed they had no mahram (close familial) relationship and were not married to each other.
“The girl is no longer in school and lives with her mother and had recently quit her job at a supermarket.
“At the time, the girl’s mother was watching television with a female friend and claimed she knew the man was in the house,” he said.

‘I was just dying her hair’
Anwar Sharifuddin said the man was from Penang and works part-time at a motorcycle shop.
He told officers that he knew the girl for eight months after first meeting her on TikTok and communicating via Telegram.
As for the girl, she said she had asked the man to come to her house to help dye her hair in her room.

She also claimed her mother knew the man was in her room but did not prohibit him from doing so.
The couple was detained for alleged khalwat and taken to the police station for an arrest report before being brought to the religious office for their statements to be recorded.
The case is being investigated under Section 25(a)(b) of the Kedah Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 2014, which carries a fine of up to RM3,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both upon conviction.
