Lorry driver skids along the NKVE and tests positive for drugs

Don't do drugs.

SHAH ALAM – A lorry driver fell asleep on the wheel and skidded at Kilometer 10.9 of the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) heading towards Subang yesterday (Sept 23).

The accident, which occurred after the North-South Central Link (Elite) Highway exit, was caught on camera by a passing motorist and later uploaded onto social media.

In the video, the lorry was staggering before digressing into the left lane and turning turtle.

An avoidable accident

Acting Shah Alam district police chief Superintendent Ramsay Anak Embol confirmed the incident, which happened at 8.30 am.

“Preliminary investigations found that the 33-year-old driver had fallen asleep and lost control of the vehicle.

“A motorcyclist who was coming from the same direction failed to dodge and collided with the lorry. However, he sustained minor injuries,” he said in a statement today.

In addition, Ramsay said urine tests found the driver to be positive for methamphetamine.

Hence, the police brought him to court today for a remand application under Section 15 (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“The case will be investigated under Section 45 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs.”

All in all, the Shah Alam District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division’s Investigating Officer, Inspector Muhammad Hasrul Suhiami encourages witnesses with information to the case to contact them, at 011-31215697.
