A short clip of a man allegedly pumping RON95 petrol in Malaysia has gotten Malaysians talking online.
What made the video stand out was not just the act itself, but the way it was presented.
In the clip, the individual can be seen holding up what appears to be a Singaporean passport while filling up the vehicle’s tank at a petrol station.
The video was posted on Threads with the caption:
How to piss off Malaysians as a Singaporean. Step one. Steal their petrol.”

Clip sparks backlash
For context, RON95 has long been a sensitive topic in Malaysia, as the fuel is subsidised and meant for Malaysian registered vehicles.
From April 1, 2026, Malaysia also expanded enforcement so that drivers or owners of foreign registered vehicles caught buying RON95 can face legal action, not just petrol station operators.
Unsurprisingly, the clip did not sit well with many Malaysians, especially with the caption appearing to make fun of the situation.
However, not everyone said they were angry. Some said the act came across as embarrassing instead.
One netizen wrote: ‘How to know a poor Singaporean. Step one. Cannot afford to buy petrol in their own country.’
Another commenter said they were not even upset, but found the clip ironic.
‘As a Malaysian, I’m not even pissed. I’m actually proud. All I see is someone from a so called first world country proudly showing off their own stupidity and how broke they are.’
Another user pointed out that visitors should respect the rules of the country they are in.
While the person in the clip may have intended it as a joke, many Malaysians felt the act was disrespectful, especially because fuel subsidies remain a serious issue in the country.
