Family members of the couple who died after eating pufferfish recently displayed banners in both Chinese and English in front of the funeral procession, condemning the unscrupulous fishmonger and calling for the government to enforce a ban on the sale of pufferfish in Malaysia.

Numerous banners were hung in front of the late Mr. Wong’s memorial, bearing the messages “Justice for parents’ lives & legal prosecution for irresponsible fish traders”.

According to China Press, similar handwritten messages were also placed at the memorial site.


At the same time, they have also submitted a letter of appeal to the Minister of Health, Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, urging for a speedy investigation and actions to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
Both die after eating pufferfish
As previously reported, the elderly couple from Kampung Baru Cina in Kluang, Johor, namely 84-year-old Ng Chuan Sing and his 83-year-old wife Lim Siew Guan(Transliteration), were poisoned after consuming pufferfish on the afternoon of March 25th.
Lim succumbed to the poisoning around 7 pm on the same day, while Wong, who was treated at the Kluang Government Hospital passed away on the morning of April 8th after struggling for two weeks.
