Formula 1 fans hoping to score very cheap tickets for the upcoming race in Sepang may need to manage their expectations.
According to New Straits Times, Sepang International Circuit (SIC) CEO Azhan Shafriman Hanif said tickets for the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix are unlikely to be priced below RM100, although discussions on more affordable options are still ongoing.
SIC does not have full control over ticket prices
SIC is currently working with Bahrain to finalise the ticket prices.
He explained that SIC does not have full authority to decide the prices as all proceeds from ticket sales are expected to go back to Bahrain.
Malaysia is hosting the race on behalf of Bahrain, which is covering most of the event’s expenses.
Because of this arrangement, he said it would be difficult to offer tickets below RM100, unlike the affordable options previously made available for the Malaysian MotoGP.
However, he promised to push for more affordable prices during negotiations and suggested that special rates could be introduced for MyKad holders.
Tickets are expected to go on sale as early as the first week of August.
PM Anwar previously hinted at ‘MADANI’ tickets
The update came after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government would consider introducing more affordable “MADANI” tickets following public feedback about the cost of attending the race.
According to RTM, Anwar said the cheapest ticket discussed was around RM200.
He added that cheaper ticket holders should expect seats located farther from the track instead of front-row views.
However, the proposed MADANI ticket price has not been confirmed.
The Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will take place at the Sepang International Circuit from Oct. 2 to 4, 2026.
The event marks Formula 1’s return to Sepang after the circuit last hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix in 2017.
