Driving while asleep behind the wheel is illegal

The police were informed of these stories when screenshots of them surfaced online and went viral. In response, the police also warned, “If you are still in Ipoh, we will arrest you.”

Yesterday, during a media briefing, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan, the chief of police in Perak, stated that he would direct the traffic division to apprehend the pair if they were found driving dangerously, according to The Sun Daily.

As of now, the police are conducting an investigation to determine the current location of the duo, as it is unclear whether they are still in Ipoh, which was the direction they were last seen heading towards on Tuesday, 28 March.

“It is against the law for anyone to drive recklessly,” Yusri added.

Remain attentive while driving

According to the Perak police chief’s statement to Sin Chew Daily, drivers are permitted to engage the automatic driving feature, but it is imperative that they do not fall asleep while driving and keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times to guarantee safety.

If it is discovered that someone is driving without their hands on the steering wheel, the police will investigate under Section 10 of the Road Transport Act 1987, Yusri further added.
