A Xiaohongshu post has raised eyebrows among Malaysians after the OP allegedly sought help from the Malaysian Chinese community in applying for the My50 monthly travel pass.

In the post, the OP, believed to be a Chinese national, wrote that they were “looking for a Malaysian Chinese person” and were willing to pay an undisclosed amount if help was given to apply for the My50 monthly travel pass.

The caption added that it would be for around four months from July 2026 to October 2026.

The post quickly caught attention as My50 is a subsidised monthly travel pass meant for Malaysians, where users can enjoy unlimited rides for 30 days on Rapid KL rail and bus services for RM50.

However, non-Malaysians are not eligible for My50 and would instead have to purchase the Rapid Bulanan pass, which is priced at RM150.

Because of this, several netizens believed the OP was trying to look for a local to help renew the pass on their behalf to avoid paying the foreigner rate.

Debate

In the comment section, one netizen jokingly offered to help, writing: “I can do it, but I’ll charge you RM250.”

In response, another netizen warned that helping the OP could lead to legal trouble.

Another netizen advised the OP to delete the post, saying that it was not possible to apply for the MY50 pass on behalf of someone else as a MyKad has to be used.

However, another netizen pointed out the My50 pass does not necessarily require a MyKad to be used when tapping in and out.

According to them, a normal Touch n Go (TnG) card can be used, but the monthly renewal has to be done through the TnG account linked to the MyKad holder.

My50 is only for Malaysians

According to MyRapid, the My50 pass is priced at RM50 and allows users to enjoy 30 days of unlimited rides on Rapid KL rail and bus services. MyRapid also states that the pass is “exclusively for Malaysians.”

TnG help page stated that those buying the My50 pass via its eWallet must be Malaysian citizens with a MyKad and must verify their TNG eWallet account using their MyKad.

It also said that users cannot buy the pass via TnG eWallet if their account was verified with a passport.

For comparison, MyRapid’s Rapid Bulanan page states that the monthly pass is open to all users, while Malaysians may still opt for My50. The Rapid Bulanan pass is priced at RM150 for 30 days.
