Malaysians often take their public transport system for granted, but an Indonesian netizen’s recent comments shed light on just how fortunate they are to have access to affordable and efficient public transportation.
Alivia Awin, an Indonesian who recently relocated to Malaysia, shared her astonishment over the ease and low cost of getting around the country.
Indonesian woman amazed by how RM10 lets her explore KL all day
In a social media post, she expressed how surprised she was to discover that Malaysians can use public transportation at incredibly low prices.
“When I moved to Malaysia, I was amazed to find out that Malaysians can travel on public transport at such affordable rates.
You can even buy a monthly pass for just RM50,” she explained, adding that this was something rarely seen in her home country.
Her reflections made her realise a stark difference in public service management between Malaysia and Indonesia.
“At that moment, it hit me that my country doesn’t manage public facilities with the same care.
In Malaysia, even foreigners like me can get daily travel passes for just RM10 with Rapid KL and you can travel all over KL all day until you’re exhausted,” she said, highlighting how easy it is to explore Kuala Lumpur’s public transport network.
Alivia then compared her experience to life in Jakarta, where RM10, or 35,000 Indonesian rupiah, would only cover a basic commute to work.
She emphasised how much further that same amount stretches in Malaysia, allowing for unlimited travel around the city all day.
Her post quickly garnered attention from other Indonesians living in Malaysia, many of whom echoed her praise of the country’s transportation system.
One user pointed out that Malaysia’s public transport is so reliable, they don’t even need to buy a car. Another noted that RM100 on a Touch ‘n Go card could last an entire month without needing a top-up.
Alivia’s comments have struck a chord, reminding Malaysians of the privileges they might not always notice in their day-to-day lives.
With such accessible and affordable options available, it’s easy to see why Malaysia’s public transportation is admired not only by its citizens but also by those from abroad.
