Anwar: Agong Hasn’t Taken Any Allowance Since Pandemic Began

The Agong and the Raja Permaisuri Agong are entitled to allowances under the Istana Negara (Royal Allowances) Act 1982.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, has not taken his royal allowance since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

At a press conference today, Anwar said Agong had instead decided to donate the funds in view of the country’s economic situation and the struggles of the people during the pandemic times.

The Agong and the Raja Permaisuri Agong are entitled to allowances under the Istana Negara (Royal Allowances) Act 1982.

It is important to explain that Sultan Abdullah has not been taking his allowance even before his appointment as the Prime Minister.”

PM Anwar has publicly shared that he would not be taking any salary or allowances as Prime Minister and Finance Minister until the economy has fully recovered.

Besides, the Cabinet had also agreed to take a 20% pay cut in view of the economy situation now.
