A 75-year-old man has claimed trial to a charge of dangerous driving causing death which saw two sisters losing their lives on the same day in Klang last week.
Aside from the two victims, a third victim, who was the son of one of the sisters, was left injured in the accident.
Hong Jinlai (transliteration) was accused of knocking down the three victims while driving along Jalan Pekan Baru towards Bandar Baru Klang (Taman Eng Ann) at about 7.40pm on May 15 in his SUV.
Previously, it was reported that he fled the scene before the SUV was impounded by police.

Hong was charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, which provides a maximum jail term of up to 10 years, and a fine of not less than RM20,000 and not more than RM50,000, on conviction.
In court, Hong’s lawyer told magistrate A. Khartiyayini that Hong was a retiree with five children and is currently undergoing treatment for high blood pressure and diabetes.
He also pleaded for a lower bail amount, saying that Hong’s guarantor is his son-in-law who works at a restaurant and earns about RM3,500 a month, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The court granted Hong bail at RM10,000 with one surety and fixed Aug 4 for case mention. However, Hong’s driver’s license was ordered to be suspended until the trial is fully complete.
The tragedy has left the victims’ families shattered, with one member calling for justice to be served by the authorities.
