The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has announced the revision of the passenger service charges (PSC) for the First Regulatory Period (RP1), spanning from June 1, 2024 to Dec 31, 2026.
Starting June 1, if you’re flying within Malaysia and need to switch planes, you’ll be charged an extra RM7. If you’re flying to another country and have to transfer flights, the fee will be up to RM42, depending on the airport.
Tickets bought before June 1, 2024, won’t have these new charges, even if you’re traveling after that date.
Here’s how the fees break down:
- For domestic flights (within Malaysia), it’ll cost RM7 to transfer at most airports. If you’re transferring at Senai International Airport, the fee is RM10.
- For international flights, if you’re transferring at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 1 (KLIA1), you’ll be charged RM42. At KLIA2 and other airports, the fee for international transfers is RM29.
The departure charge on domestic flights is generally RM11, but Senai International Airport will charge RM16 instead of the usual RM11.
For international travelers, the departures charge will be RM73 no matter where you’re going.
This fee applies to all airports except for KLIA2 and some others, where the international departure charge has been standardized to RM50. Before, travelers flying beyond ASEAN countries were charged RM73.
These changes will be in effect from June 1, 2024, until December 31, 2026.
