With the cost of living increasing with each passing day, Malaysians from all walks of life, including those with good paying jobs, are feeling the strain of having to provide for themselves with their earnings.
A doctor recently took to social media to lament how he was forced to consume instant noodles at the end of every month despite enjoying a high salary.
M’sian doctor says he’s forced to eat Maggi every month
In a post shared on X (previously Twitter) by @meinmokhtar, the anonymous netizen wrote that he worked as a doctor and had a salary of RM5,000.
However, he admitted that his salary wasn’t enough to pay for his monthly expenses, which has forced him to eat instant noodles whenever it approached the end of the month.
My salary is RM5k. Rent for the condo is RM2.9k, car loan is RM500, Unifi (Internet) bill is RM100, phone bill is RM100, and petrol is RM400 a month.
“I never have enough money left to eat and often have to eat Maggi at the end of the month and I have no savings. Where did I go wrong?” he wrote.
Netizens: ‘You have poor financial habits’
Sadly, a handful of netizens were quite as sympathetic to the doctor’s predicament, with them saying that he had put himself in a tight spot no thanks to his poor financial decisions.
‘Your mistake was renting a RM3k (house) with your RM5k salary. That’s almost 60% of your pay!’
‘Guess God is being fair here. He gave OP a high level of intelligence to become a medical officer but a lower level of common sense and intelligence when it comes to managing money.’
In the same vein, one netizen pointed out that it was a common misconception among Malaysians that becoming a doctor guarantees one of having a high salary.
