A woman found herself in the crosshairs of religious authorities in Johor for allegedly committing ‘khalwat’ (close proximity) with her boyfriend.
Though she tried to argue her way out from trouble, it proved to be futile as she was subsequently arrested and faces a potential fine and jail time.
Excuses
According to Harian Metro, Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) officials raided a luxury condominium unit in Forest City, Iskandar Puteri at 1am on Saturday (May 23) after recieving a complaint about immoral activities.

During questioning, the couple, who are both single and employed, admitted they were neither husband and wife nor step-siblings.
Officials also discovered that the house was rented by the man who lives alone, with his partner arriving at around 10pm.
The woman told the authorities that she had only gone to the house to deliver food to her boyfriend and discuss work matters as they work at the same place.

Planned to get married
JAINJ officials found out that the woman frequently visited the house as she and her boyfriend believed it was safe from prying eyes due to its quiet surroundings and the fact that they rarely encountered neighbours.
When asked whether they intended to get married, the couple said they had thought about it but are not ready yet as they only started working.
They were arrested and are now being investigated under Section 27 of the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment (Johor) 1997, where they will be charged at the Syariah Court.
